About Bark And Meow Tales

Hi, I’m Saloni Nagar, the founder of Bark & Meow Tales. I started this pet health and care blog based on my own experiences, my love for cats, and a hard lesson I learned too late.

This platform is here to help pet parents understand their cats, spot early warning signs, and take action before emergencies become serious.

I know from experience how heartbreaking it is not to notice the signs in time.

How Bark & Meow Tales Began

In 2021, I adopted three cats: two males, Simba and Shadow, and a female, Grace. They quickly became part of the family.

We cared for them with love and what we thought was a balanced diet, including dry kibble, wet food, chicken, eggs, and lamb.

Everything seemed fine at first, but that changed.

When Love Isn’t Enough Without Knowledge

In 2023, Shadow started losing weight, hiding, and staying unusually quiet. We thought it was just a phase. Like many pet parents, we didn’t know that cats often hide pain and illness.

When he stopped eating, we took him to the vet right away. Tests showed he had tick fever. He got better with treatment, but he was never as playful as before.

At the same time, I was pregnant. Even though I cared a lot, I couldn’t give him all the attention he needed. Shadow made it through, but his body was already weak.

In February 2024, his health got worse again. He had a high fever, lost weight, and stopped eating. The vet said he had a liver infection. He survived again, but he was tired and slept most of the day. We thought his weakness was just part of the process of getting better.

We didn’t realize there were more serious signs we were missing.

After my baby was born in 2024, life became overwhelming. We didn’t keep close track of Shadow’s hydration, nutrition, blood sugar, or small changes in his behavior. It wasn’t that we didn’t care; we just didn’t know how important these things were.

On December 31, 2024, Shadow had seizures and lost consciousness. The vet told us he had severe hypoglycemia and jaundice. He was too weak for treatment to help.

On 1st January 2025, we lost him.

Not because of neglect.

But it happened because we didn’t have the right knowledge when it mattered most.

Why Bark & Meow Tales Exist

Shadow’s sudden loss changed me forever.

I realized how many pet parents:

  • miss early symptoms of serious illness
  • feel overwhelmed by complex veterinary terms
  • don’t know what to do immediately in emergencies
  • Assume “it will pass” until it’s too late

Bark & Meow Tales was created to close that gap.

Here, you’ll find:

  • Simple explanations of complex cat health topics
  • Clear guidance on nutrition, hydration, behavior, and preventive care
  • Emergency-focused content like checklists, calculators, and action plans
  • Practical advice written by a pet parent—for pet parents

No jargon. No fear tactics. Just clear, caring, and practical advice.

A Promise I Keep Every Day

After losing Shadow, I promised myself I would never be careless again.

Now, I care for Simba and Grace by paying close attention and feeling confident. I notice changes in their behavior early and act calmly.

This blog is my way of making sure other pet parents don’t learn these lessons through loss.

If Bark & Meow Tales helps even one person recognise a warning sign early or save their cat’s life, then Shadow’s story will help protect others, too.
